A Wandering Mind and Wieners

I love this picture :) We went to Wormsloe the other day, and I was taking some pictures of Jake walking when I captured a "fall" shot. Haha. I love his little expression
Hello, Fall weather!!! Thank goodness it is finally cooling down. I am enjoying this little nip in the air. Jake is still a bit confused with the long sleeves. Clearly, he doesn't remember wearing anything with long sleeves, and yesterday morning when I put on a long sleeve tee over his little shirt, he tugged at the sleeves at his wrist like, "What are these things?" Yesterday was October 1st, and we spent the morning in downtown Savannah.

Six years ago, when Jason and I had first started dating on a pretty Saturday morning October 1st we headed to Savannah from Macon. I have said that it was during this day trip that I realized that I loved Jason - which was terrifying because we had not been dating very long. We walked around and went to all the booths, ate brats, drank beer, and watched the wiener dogs run around. I thought that it was fitting that we should head downtown to enjoy the day. Minus the beer for me and Jake, of course. Last time, we didn't have a 13 month old and an 18 weeker (haha) to bring along. So this time, we watched the wiener dog races - well, 2 heats of them anyway, and it was pretty comical. These poor little dogs would come out of the gate, and some would just stand there, some ran to the end only to turn around before going to the finish line, and some just ran in circles. One family had shirts made for their dog which we thought were pretty stinking cute, but they said that poor Cooper was scared of his own shadow. Well, we saw them later, and apparently poor Cooper never even left the gate - haha. Here are some pics from the day.

Here are the shirts for Cooper!

One person had to stand at the finish line to call the dog. Most had a toy or treat in hand.

The dogs lined up at the gate

Seriously, this is intense

And they're off!!!!!!!

At the finish line

It was pretty cool to walk around with Jason and Jake and think about all that has happened in the past six years. Jason and I had someone take a picture of us, and I had Jason take a picture of Jake and I near the same spot.

Moving to a new place is always hard. I remember how I felt after Jason went to work when we moved to Mississippi. I think now it is magnified times at least 5. When we were in Mississippi, there were also a group of girls who were in the same boat as myself - we just had to connect with each other. Now, we have moved to a place where that group doesn't really exist. When Jason works a string of shifts, it is really hard because a baby, a cat, and a dog don't make for much stimulating conversation. When Jason is off, I want a break, but I am hesistant to leave home because my link to adult conversation is at home finally :) I know that this shall pass, but right now Savannah is a beautiful but lonely place to live.

On a happier note, I did get to take pictures for a friend from Warner Robins a few weeks ago. Ashley was our neighbor in Warner Robins, and lived next door when little Daley was born. When we moved to Brandon, MS, we found out that Ashley grew up there, and over the years that we lived there, we kept in touch because she would come visit her mom who lived a few miles down the road from us. Small world... So, Daley and Ashley came to Savannah a few weeks ago to visit, and we took pictures while they were here. I also made Jake be my little model a few afternoons ago and enlisted his Daddy as my assistant. Here are some of my favorites from those two "sessions".

I am so thankful that Jake is such an easy little guy. He pretty much entertains himself a lot of the time, whether it is playing in his room or reading his books. He loves to go outside and will ride in the stroller forever, although he prefers to run! The little man still goes to bed around 6:30 and most mornings sleeps until after 7. Whew!! This afternoon we went to Oatland Island Nature Center and walked the trails. They have various animal exhibits along the long trail. This afternoon, the wolves started howling, and honestly, it was pretty eerie. I got a shot of some of the animals, but most of them aren't that great. After we finished the trail, I let Jake run around for a while outside and snapped a few pics.

The new little man is growing like a weed. I have to go back to the doctor on October 14th for a follow up ultrasound. He is a mover and a shaker. I know that I wasn't feeling Jake this early, but this little man moves all the time!! I think we have settled on at least a first name, but who knows, that could change. Enough rambling for now - I must be productive while Jake sleeps :)
