Okay, we will start with the bad and get that out of the way. Really, it doesn't seem that bad now since it's been a few weeks, but at time I thought I would lose it. A few weeks ago, it seemed that Jason was working a lot of shifts in a row. Jake was super fussy (I think it had to do with teeth - damn things), and it was just the little man and myself for days on end. I really wanted to blog about it at the time, but I thought it might elicit a call to DFACS from a concerned reader! Haha. In reality, by the time he went to bed, all I wanted to do was get some food, lie on the sofa, and catch up on reality TV until I fell asleep. I know that all moms, especially those of us who stay at home, have those days. Those "oh, my God, I am a failure as a mother" days. It just felt like nothing I did was the right thing to do, and when he sat in the floor and cried, well, so did I. And just about the time you wanted to throw him out with the bath water, he came up to give me a kiss or brought me a book to read and saved himself. Like I said, now it doesn't seem that bad because Jason has been home, and I have had some backup. I can read TMZ undisturbed for a few minutes, or hell, just pee in peace. Jason is working a good bit here in the next week or so, so you very well may see a blog from a tired, angry mom. Beware.
With that small bit of "bad", there has been a lot of good lately. The weather is cooling off, and that is a welcome change from the stifling heat. What could be cuter than footie pajamas? I mean, seriously, people...
Last weekend, my friend from college, Kayce, and her family were in town. Kayce asked me to take some pictures of her family while they were here, and I gladly said yes. It doesn't seem like that long ago that we were talking about boyfriends and Thursday night plans for going out, and now we are moms raising kiddos. How time flies! I thought I would post a few of the pics from the time I spent with them. Kayce and Kyle are a wonderful, sweet couple with beautiful girls.
On another happier note, that same day, Oklahoma beat Texas and all was right with the world in the Lowe household. Let me tell you - if the outcome is anything other than that, you do NOT want to be hanging around. This was Jake's second OU/TX game. He and his Daddy watched and each had their beverages of choice in hand - beer for Daddy and juice for the Jakeman. Here is a pic from last year, followed by this year's pic.
Jake and I have been busy lately, as well. We have been to music class for the past 2 weeks, and he seems to enjoy it. The little man loves to dance anyway, so I figured that this was a good addition to the weekly routine. I will have to get some pics soon from music class. He also has a few little videos that we watch on YouTube. Some are of himself, and many of the videos are Sesame Street songs. You know that you are a parent when you walk around the house singing about Elmo and his ducks - AFTER the baby has gone to bed. Oh, yes, people. (That admission should probably go in the "sad" category of this blog.) I tried to get his sweet expression as his favorite video came on, but this was all I got. Still pretty sweet...
And now for the just plan sad... Jason and I had a wonderful, wonderful date last night. We ate dinner at Rocks River Grill and then just walked around for a while. Jason got a pumpkin spice milkshake from Leopold's which tasted like pumpkin pie in a cup. Then we hopped on the ferry for a free ride over to the SC side of the river. We sat in a little gazebo in some rocking chairs at the Westin and just talked. It was a beautiful view, and I would suggest that you all do it sometime. As we headed home, I remarked at how late it felt - it was 10:00. Jason said it was because we are getting old. JUST. PLAIN. SAD. I had to agree. As I walked around last night, I pointed out a few places that, in my younger days, I stumbled around Savannah. Granted, I really don't want to stumble drunkenly around town, but I did realize that those days are LONG gone. And you know what? I am more than okay with that :)
