An Afternoon with My Boys

In the words of Rincon, GA native, Billy Currington, "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy." Because people are indeed crazy, I am tossing around the idea of making this blog all about recipes and DIY and moving all personal entries to a password protected site. Just a thought for now, but if I can get my pregnant self in gear, it may take place very soon.

The boys have been absolutely precious this afternoon, and I haven't had many days lately I can say that with a straight face. Connor is going through the terrible two's, and they are TUR-ABLE. Everyone warned me that three was much worse than two. In the words of wisdom from Jason's cousin, Sara, they are smarter and faster. Indeed, Sara, indeed...We have only been three about a month, and he has proven this theory time and again. Whew!!!

However, this afternoon was a welcome exception. Lately, it seems that chasing the boys leaves me with an aching, tight, 25 week belly. Not good, people, not good. Today after naps, we took the golf cart on an adventure. Since rains had soaked the marsh and high tide had just moved through, we had some good crab hunting. Jake was quick to lose his flip flops, and I stripped Connor of his socks and shoes and let the boys be boys. They splashed in the mud, tugged on someones crab line, chased and stepped on a few crabs, and just got muddy. Needless to say, it was a hit.

We got back home, hosed off, and played outside for the next hour and a half. Let me say that sidewalk chalk plus a tricycle provided about 45 minutes of entertainment. We WILL be doing this again. Jake called it his "swirly track".

Connor, not to be outdone, joined in for a bit.

Trouble ensued. I love the look on his face. Speaking of Connor, we pulled out every toy in the garage, and ended up making a "game" of climbing on and off the golf cart. He said "game" over and over. He would climb on, hold my hand, step off, repeat. The child is talking like crazy, and his teacher said one of their favorite things is telling Connor to repeat things because he says everything!

We ended up with a BAD case of "grocery store feet."

Connor is 19 months old today, and the poor boy still doesn't have a lot of hair. It cracks me up. I spotted this after he was born and remarked that it would give him problems all his life. Seeing as how we have a bit of a mohawk going on, can you spot the problem? haha

Yep, a big ole double crown. He will probably have "interesting" hairdos :)

I do love the ages that the boys are right now - minus the daily tantrums. Jake's little brain is quite amazing to hear in action. To hear him ask about the herons and tell you about the palm trees, etc is pretty impressive. It is crazy what they catch on to when you think they aren't paying attention. His eyes were watering the other day. He told me his eyes were melting :) When we caught crabs the other day, I told him that one was biting the stew out of my finger. When I showed him that the pinchers were on my finger, there was a drop of water there as well. He asked if that was the stew coming out. It took me a second to catch on before realizing I DID say it was pinching the stew out of me. Connor is learning by leaps and bounds. He will, in fact, repeat anything you say. He will count to ten by saying the next number as you count. Smart little monkey, that boy. It is bedtime for the Jakeman, so I will sign off for now. Nighty, night blog land.
