Our days right now revolve around packing and juggling children. When Jason is off, we usually take turns with the kiddos during the day. I have been heading back to the house after the kids go to bed when Jason is home in order to organize and put away the things we took over during the day. Movers are coming to move the big stuff, but I really wanted to take over as much as we could. For me, even though it makes life busy, I hate the thought of having to open and unpack boxes when I could just open the cabinet and stick something inside after taking it out of my car. Anyhoo, when Jason is working, I pack the car in the mornings and head over at least once, repack during nap time, and then make at least one more trip in the afternoons. Cah-razy, I tell you.
The one bright spot in the house right now is Jake's room. I have a ton more to do and will show the finished product then, but here is a sneak peek at the pirate's cove :)
The painter is there now repainting the master bedroom and bath, the kitchen, and the guest room and bath. Once he gets done with our bed and bath (which should be today), I will be able to move a ton of stuff. Right now the bedroom is going from this:

Okay, so you'll have to trust me. I realize the pics don't look that different, but it was a light green and is being painted Woodlawn Blue by Benjamin Moore. I am in lurve with the color and can't wait to see our new bedding in there. One other little project I tackled the other night was in the kitchen. I had some glass front cabinets in the kitchen and wanted to display my white serving pieces. However, my cabinets are white, so I needed some way to make them stand out. I didn't want to paint the back of the cabinets but wasn't sure what to do. I seriously stumbled across an article on the internet when I wasn't even looking for a way to fix this problem. The solution is liquid starch and fabric. I wish I had a before pic, but I don't. You will just have to imagine that the cabinet was white. Here is the after pic (not the best pic). Please ignore the red walls. They are going away very soon.
Okay, so here's what you do. Measure your cabinet and cut your fabric. I used cotton duckcloth because the lady at Joanne's told me that would work best. I also read that you had to allow for a little shrinkage on the fabric, but my fabric didn't shrink. You are supposed to be able to find liquid starch at Wal-Mart, but I couldn't so I made some. The recipe is 1/4 c cornstarch mixed with 1/2 cup water. Add to that 4 c boiling water, stir and let cool. Then you soak your fabric and wring it out. Place the fabric on the back of the cabinet. Use a credit card, your hand, whatever you want to get all the air bubbles out. I ended up wetting a big wad of paper towels and wiping the fabric and that worked great. After your fabric is smooth, you let it dry for 24 hours. Voila! Instant color. When you get tired of it, it peels right off without damaging anything. If you do need to trim, wait until the fabric is dry and stiff then trim.
Okay, so I just heard Jake, and I must sign off for now. There is breakfast to be made and a load to take to the house. Until next time...
