We joked that while Jake had Spring Break from preschool, we had 3 objectives:
1) Potty train Jake
2) Get Connor walking
&
3) Get Connor to hold his own sippy cup
Please know that we said this totally joking. #3 has been accomplished, just so you know. Many people with babies will post Facebook pics of their little ones holding their own bottles and such. My children, not so much...They are just fine with letting someone else do the hard work - haha. One day about 2 weeks ago, Connor decided that he would hold his own sippy cup. Hallelujah! He's not really any closer to walking. He was slower to crawl because he could get somewhere faster by scooting, and I think walking is the same way. He can crawl faster to steal a toy from Jake than he could walking. He will hold onto one of my fingers and walk, so I really think he could be walking if he really wanted to do it.
As for Jake and the potty training, it is going well. I know plenty of people have had success with the 3 day, no pants method, but I don't think I could handle that. I can only imagine puddles of urine on my furniture or Connor crawling through puddles, etc. My OCD clean freak self would need to have some stiff drinks to handle that one. We are going the bribe method - ha!
Jake got jellybeans in his Easter basket, and I told him that he couldn't have them until he pee-peed in the potty. He was very resistant to trying at first. Then, he got a jellybean when he went, and the whole thing changed! Jason told him that he would get one jellybean for pee-pee and 2 jellybeans for a poop. That boy will now squeeze out a little poop every single time. It's pretty impressive, actually. He told me the other day that he needed to poop in the potty, so we headed in to the bathroom, rounded up Connor, and waited. He pushed - nothing. Tried again, nothing. I asked if he was done, and he said no. I cracked up because I noticed he was pushing his little legs. I asked him what he was doing, and he said, "I can't push it out, Mommy. You push my legs." I explained that isn't the way that worked, but I don't think he bought it. All the Mamas out there know, you don't get to go to the potty alone. Jake followed me in there the other day. He waited and then started clapping and said, "Yay, Mommy! You tee-teed in the potty." Then he ran over and hugged me and said, "I so proud of you, Mommy. Good job." Today, he told me he needed to go potty and he had a dry diaper when we got to the potty, so we are getting there.
This age is so cute for both boys. Connor is quick to give hugs and open mouthed kisses :) We were at the table the other morning and I did the sign for "I love you" to Jake. Connor - not to be outdone - did it, too. He does it all the time now by pointing to himself and saying what sounds like "I" then pointing to me. So.Stinking.Cute! Jake's vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds. I sat there this afternoon listening to him tell me how Jay at school wouldn't share the dump truck. I realize that this was fo sho the embellished, Mommy-friendly version of the story, but just listening to him tell it was cool.
Crab hunting is a favorite afternoon activity now. Never, in a million years did I think I would be out in the marsh hunting crabs to PICK UP. The joys of being a Mama to boys. This afternoon, we had to show the crab Jake's boo-boo. His request, not mine. The crab seemed very concerned and proceeded to pinch my finger - probably to show me what Jake's boo-boo felt like.
I will end with a few pics of the boys. At the end of the day, I am very thankful and incredibly blessed to be the Mommy to these 2 sweet little boys.
