Poseidon, Look at Meee.....

Some of you will get that reference, and well, some just won't. And that's okay. First and foremost, let me say thank you to Gerad Troutman for arranging our adventure on the high seas :) After all, it was Troutman who found the cruise and scheduled all the seniors to be off at the same time so that they could go. This was never meant to be some high class vacation to beat all vacations. It was a time for all the residents to be together for one last hoorah and spend time with their spouses.

I will admit, I did not want to go when Jason first told me. Truly, I couldn't imagine leaving my baby. The more I thought about it, the more I realized it probably was a great idea after all. In the days before we left, I doubted my decision again. I was plagued with crazy ideas like "what if we died" or other "what ifs". However, once we got to the Kelton's house and got on the road, all hesitation vanished. Well, after a couple of times of "I'm on a Boat" at full blast and a drive-thru daiquiri , the hesitation was gone.

The first hiccup of the trip happened immediately after arriving in NOLA. We dropped our luggage off and were headed to Drago's when Jason said, "You know what we forgot? We didn't get our passports out of the luggage." I don't know why I put them there in the first place, I should have put them in my purse. Soooo.....after calling Carnival, we confirmed that yes, we did need them to board the boat. After sending the Keltons to eat oysters without us, Jason and I went and waited FOREVER in the Carnival office. We were some of the last people to board the boat, but all was right with the world once we got on the boat.

What a fun time. I never thought I would say this, but for long stretches of time, I forgot about being a mama. I was simply a wife on a trip having a great time with my husband. Part of me feels bad for admitting that, but it's true. I didn't think about Jake at home because Jason's parents were here, and there was no doubt that he was being taken care of in the best possible way. I did call each day to check in and make sure everything was going well which, of course, it was. Jason and I actually got to spend time together as a couple, not parents of a 7 month old. It was like dating all over again.

The couples that went made the trip enjoyable as well. We all met up for dinner at night. I have to say, I miss my daily dose of Kelton just as I said I would. They are perhaps, in my opinion, the coolest couple I know. I will miss them dearly when we leave. Thank you to Jan and Dave for letting us enjoy your balcony, as well :) We are forever grateful.
The whole gang

We learned alot on this trip. Apparently, minotaurs are quite prevelent on cruises, Cajun speak in a dialect only they can understand after a few drinks, and Dr. Jess Jewett does one hell of a Dr. Phillips impression : ) I am so glad we went, and I wish that everyone could do it again in the future.

The ER residents
After we got home, some of the guys showed up at our house for the head shaving party. You see, Dr. Phillips, who was the program director is leaving. The man is quite the ninja of the medical field, being doubly boarded in anesthesia and emergency medicine. He runs to work often, and trust me, he doesn't live close by. He graduated residency from UMC, and in his senior picture, he sported his shaved head (because he doesn't have hair) and his little mustache which he keeps all the time. To complete the look, he wore a bow tie. The guys decided that they would pay tribute to Dr. Phillips by copying the look. I'm sure he loved it. Most of the guys joined in on the fun.  And guess what, people got a good laugh out of it. Because it was funny. End of story. I, along with the other wives, are so ready to have hair on my husband's head again. Until next time...
